Young Labour Democracy & Labour Campaign for Free Education
Young Labour Democracy,
7 March at 6pm in University College London, Pearson G22 LT, UCL
The Young Labour National Committee has announced a review of Young Labour structures - to be carried out by a members of the Parliamentary Labour Party rather than young members!
Rank-and-file members of Young Labour and Labour Students from across the country are meeting on 7 March to mobilise opposition to the undemocratic nature of this review. We are demanding a more democratic review, led by young members ourselves, and open to discussion and amendments by a democratic conference.

Labour Campaign for Free Education,
21 March at 10am in University College London.
The Labour Campaign for Free Education (LCFE) believes that education is a public good, which benefits society as a whole. It should be paid for through general taxation, with the rich paying the most. We reject other mechanisms to make individuals pay for education, such as the “graduate tax”, which undermine universalism and perpetuate the idea that education is an individual privilege and not a social right.
LCFE is organising a one-day conference on 21 March bringing together Labour Party members, trade unionists and student activists to build pressure on Labour to abolish tuition fees and rebuild our education system.

Sadly, many have fallen for this deception and the ‘look over there’ politics that has rose to prominence since the Conservatives returned to power in 2010. [continue...]

Rail bosses are using the recession as an excuse to attack jobs and conditions and cut back on services and essential rail works, and hike rail fares - as LEAP research suggested they would. Thousands of jobs are being threatened or have been lost. At the same time rail fat cats are raking in big profits and bonuses on the back of the most expensive fares in Europe. Make no mistake: as the recession worsens so will the attack on rail workers and rail services. [continue...]
