Clear evidence emerged recently that several major construction companies had been blacklisting workers for trade union activity. Under the Employment Relations Act 1999, the government has the power to introduce regulations prohibiting the blacklisting of workers for their union membership or activities, and now finally, the Government has indicated that after a short consultation it will legislate in the autumn.
