People’s Assembly Demonstration against Austerity

No more austerity: Demand the Alternative

National Demonstration and free festival 21 June 2014

Assemble 1pm, BBC HQ, Portland Place, London W1 1AA (Tube: Oxford Circus)

March to Parliament Square

Trade Unions and campaign groups are organising a national demonstration and free festival to demand the alternative.

Living standards continue to drop, forcing millions into poverty, yet the politicians remain addicted to austerity.

This demonstration will assemble right on the BBC’s doorstep and march to Parliament to demand that the alternative to austerity is no longer ignored. Join us.
Thousands of people from the hundred plus local People’s Assembly groups across the country, trade unions, and local and national campaign groups, will march from BBC HQ to Parliament Square.

We will be demanding the alternatives: reverse the cuts, re-nationalise our utilities and public services, a statutory living wage, abolish zero hours contracts, end the wage freeze, invest in building social housing, abolish the bedroom tax, place a cap on private rents, a higher tax on the rich, a clamp down on tax avoidance, investment in green jobs, a stop to scapegoating immigrants and those relying on social security, increases to welfare and pensions tied to average earnings or inflation, whichever is highest, a publicly owned democratic banking system, an end to the cost of war in blood and money, no military interventions, no trident replacement, protect our unions, support the right to strike, remove the anti-union laws and promote strong and effective collective bargaining.

Rail bosses are using the recession as an excuse to attack jobs and conditions and cut back on services and essential rail works, and hike rail fares - as LEAP research suggested they would. Thousands of jobs are being threatened or have been lost. At the same time rail fat cats are raking in big profits and bonuses on the back of the most expensive fares in Europe. Make no mistake: as the recession worsens so will the attack on rail workers and rail services. [continue...]
