Ten years on, the US is helping to destroy Fallujah again Mike Phipps Conflict and carnage on a scale unseen since the height of the Occupation nearly a decade ago have broken out in Iraq’s Anbar Province. Over 140,000 people have been made homeless since fighting started at the end of last year. According to the UN, 65,000 people fled the fighting in the towns of Fallujah and Ramadi in one week alone. Falkirk: a fuss about nothing Stevie Deans was convenor at Ineos, Grangemouth, and also chair of Falkirk West Labour Party. The efforts of his union Unite to get a working class candidate selected at Falkirk were sabotaged by his employer, who seized his laptop and leaked stories about his emails to the press. Rumours of malfeasance at Falkirk LP were stoked, to their shame, by some Labour Party members. This muddied the waters of the selection process and led to a Labour Party report into the affair. The Falkirk issue was also the trigger for Ed Miliband to question the link between Labour and the unions. In the end the Party found there was no case to answer at Falkirk. [continue...]
Blacklisted worker: justice denied A High Court judge had accepted a UCATT safety rep blacklisted for his safety activities was treated unjustly, but has no legal redress because he was an agency employee. Dave Smith was repeatedly dismissed and refused work after his name appeared on The Consulting Association blacklist. [continue...]
