Labour MPs rebelled tonight against proposals in the Welfare Reform Bill that introduce workfare, attack the rights of lone parents and herald in further privatisation of the welfare state.
John McDonnell MP, LRC Chair, said:
“Labour Party members are recoiling from the brutality of welfare policy being pursued by the Government when we campaigned so hard in opposition against the same policies from the Tories.”
Around 30 Labour MPs rebelled on a series of amendments to the Welfare Reform Bill
