The deadline has now passed to make nominations for the Labour Party NEC elections. Thanks to the dozens of CLPs that nominated Gary Heather and Christine Shawcroft. Christine was the second most nominated candidate with 203 nominations, while Gary - standing for the first time - secured 49 nominations (about 1 in 8 of all CLPs that made nominations). [continue...]

The Budget on Wednesday 21 March was further evidence that this government is committed to making those who had nothing to do with causing the economic crisis pay for it. Osborne failed to give any indication that he has any plan to bring down unemployment, raise living standards, reduce inequality or create economic growth. MPs will be debating the Welfare Reform Bill on Wednesday 1 February 2012, which is the day after the Lords final debate. This is quite clearly a tactic to prevent campaigning and lobbying of MPs which is an attack on democracy. No war on Iran

International solidarity

The risk of a new military conflict with, or military strike on, Iran has intensified. A new oil embargo will bans all new oil contracts with Iran, and cuts off all existing deals.
