Hello comrades,
At the TUC conference, the Unite amendment was very important in that it made the TUC resolution lean back towards Labour.
It is very important it came from Unite, a Union of many limitations.
It goes to show the need to be very careful when criticising the Unions.
In some ways, this TUC decision gives in to the pressure that comes from the immense crisis of capitalism and the workers mobilisations. Some leaders hope the Trade Union base will applaud, and leave ‘action’ to the top people… you know. At the top of the Trade Unions, many leaders reject capitalism. But they do not want the base to intervene either, because the base would go much beyond them, and leave them behind.
However, the best way to have ‘lost’ the Charter would have been to leave it vague about Labour. Then it could have become another organisation, that floats without any definition, like so many others right now.
Whatever might have been the intention of the Unite delegates, what they have done now allows Charter campaigns to start in Labour, and in the Unions.
All this to say, things are improving.
I am sure there will be a Charter table at LRC Conference. I am asking for the LRC to confirm this, and to include me in the team that will be involved.
I have sent a copy of this communication to The Charter at Museum Street, addressed to Suresh.
Simeon or someone, I look forward to a reply, and thank you.

Marie,
I think there is a reply to your request in the email group. This is not really like an mail list it is more a chance to debate current issues, in short posts. So I think you might have a better chance of a reply to a request like this in future if you email the LRC inbox.
