Election strategy and donations

If I want to support LRC MPs but not - other - Labour MPs, what is the best way? Is there a central LRC fund, to which supporters can donate, which is then redirected to the constituencies which support our LRC MPs? After all, I don’t want my money going to people who I dislike!

Maybe but sadly a lot of LRC MP’s except for a few have a nasty voting habit to vote New labour, and I’ve had enough of voting New labour to save my life, people who voted for the war in Iraq, and then voted no for a hearing/ review, cannot be bothered, people who stated we should not have the 42 day detention then went and voted with Brown. I think right now I will wait.

I do not believe that there is such a fund, though I may be wrong. The best way to support LRC MPs is probably to volunteer your services for campaign activities.

I notice that Labour membersnet has a virtual phone bank that allows party members to telephone canvass from home. Having used the practice feature I can say that it it is very easy to use, simply following the on-screen instructions and putting in the responses.

If you happen to have a phone package that includes some free minutes this can be done at no extra cost. The big bonus of this system is that you can select which constituency to make the calls in, so you can choose which MPs benefit from your work. However before I spend some time doing this I would like someone to confirm that it is actually of some use to the MP. Does anyone know if it is worthwhile using the phone bank?

So long as nobody phones me thats fine, I might be a member of the LRC but sadly I cannot or will not vote New labour or for the moron we have as a leader right now.

The LRC General Election Strategy 2010 has now been launched: http://l-r-c.org.uk/news/story/lrc-2010-general-election-campaign/

And you can donate online to just such a fund that Carl suggests:

I’ve decided to walk away from labour, Compass, and the LRC, it’s to late New labour is alive and well and the Labour party has died a death, to support MP’s who voted for Blairs wars, voted no for a inquiry, then followed by voting for brown 42 days, then to be told they are socialist is beyond me…

What a mess.

I support the New Communist Party. We are afilliated to the LRC and urge our members to vote Labour, not because we believe Labour can solve the problems of the class system but it’s the best thing on offer at this current time while the conditions are as they are. The best thing we can do is fight for Socialism within the Labour Party through the LRC otherwise we are turning our backs on working people whilst we suffer under this rotten system. Sadly we have to face the fact that 6 months from now we are going to have Labour government or a Tory one, this is the only outcome. Voting for Respect or any other well meaning alliance of left parties (apart from in one or two constituencies)will have the same efect as voting for Cameron. These are the cold hard facts. I really urge Sociaists to bite the bullet and try to fight for better times ahead with the realistic options we currently have.

@carlr - my advice is just to get in contact with an LRC MP near you and help in that way, like mine for instance is Kelvin Hopkins in Luton North. I suppose you can always just check their voting record on issues on TheyWorkForYou.com as well. I received a mail saying that there will be contact pages up for every LRC-backed candidate on this site in the next few days.

Thanks, I’m really glad to see the creation of the Fund and I hope people contribute! I agree with Simon - the LRC can be a viable way forward, if it can maintain and expand its influence.
