The fight to defend NHS pensions is the fight to defend the NHS.
With the Health and Social Care Bill now passed through Parliament, campaigners are rightly re-focusing on campaigning to defend their local hospital, against cuts to A&E departments, maternity units and other specialist local treatment services. [continue/comment...]

Watching the late 90’s movie The Insider we can be forgiven for thinking how quaint it was, with its house brick cell phones, the moody Al Pacino, and the difficulty the media had in breaking an important story. It was one of those whistle-blower films – only this time a true story – about Big Tobacco and how Lowell Bergman of CBS’s 60 minutes struggled to protect his insider from the cigarette company which was adding extra addictive chemistry to their fags. But having overcome these problems he then found that the tobacco firm lawyers threatened CBS with a liquidating law suit if they put the program on. So the story was neutered and the whistle-blower vilified in other media with spin and conjecture. [continue/comment...]
